Overview
Check In is a private app for couples. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. We do not sell your data, run ads, or share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Information We Collect
When you create an account and use Check In, we collect:
- Email address — used to create your account and send transactional emails
- First name — displayed to your partner within the app
- Check-in data — the ratings, notes, and responses you submit
- Love language preferences — if you choose to set them in your profile
- Personality type — if you choose to enter it in your profile (optional)
- Device token — if you enable push notifications, used solely to deliver those notifications to your device
We do not collect location data, contacts, browsing history, or any data beyond what is listed above.
How We Use Your Information
Your data is used only to operate the app:
- Authenticate you and maintain your account
- Share your check-in responses with your paired partner
- Send transactional emails (partner invite, check-in notification, account deletion code)
- Deliver push notifications when your partner checks in
- Display trend history to you and your partner
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app.
Data Sharing
Your check-in data is shared only with your paired partner — the one person you have explicitly invited and connected with in the app. We do not share your data with any other third parties, except for the infrastructure services that power the app:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — cloud infrastructure, database, and email delivery
- Apple — push notification delivery via Apple Push Notification service (APNs)
Both services are bound by their own strict privacy and security agreements.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in AWS (Amazon DynamoDB) in the US East region. All data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Your account is protected by AWS Cognito, which handles authentication and password security. We never store passwords in plaintext.
Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as you have an active account. If you disconnect from your partner, check-in history associated with that relationship is scheduled for deletion. If you delete your account, all of your personal data — including your check-in history, profile information, and device tokens — is permanently deleted within 24 hours.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data — your check-in history and profile are visible in the app
- Delete your account — available in Profile → Delete Account, which permanently removes all your data
- Disconnect from your partner — available in Profile → Change Partner

Children's Privacy
Check In is intended for adults in romantic relationships. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 17. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date above and notify users via email. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
